On Monday, July 20, 2015, we arrived at work to start another week. Facing us were telephone calls, mail, faxes and e-mail, all part of everyday business. But one of the telephone calls we received relayed upsetting news. Sharon Medwid, one of the owners of Three M Tool & Machine, one of our long time insureds, had a fatal accident. With the exception of a one year break in service, Three M Tool & Machine has been insured with us since 1980. After that length of time, you are more like family. Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Sharon on one or two particular files, so I was able to have multiple, lengthy conversations with her. In my lifetime I have what I consider “favorite people”, and Sharon was quickly added to that list of no more than 10.
If you are not familiar with Sharon, my father would have described her as “a little bit of a thing”; tiny and petite, but what a DYNAMO! A smart and savvy business woman who was extremely knowledgeable of the predominantly man’s industry in which she circulated. She worked closely with me on a case that is in litigation, providing insights of which neither our attorney or I would be aware.
Sharon seemed to possess a natural curiosity about most everything. She even joined our office staff one day for a Lunch & Learn that was presented by a doctor about pain management and drug addiction. And yes, she even asked questions!
Her Obituary included her “3 fur kids” in the list of loved ones and requested that in lieu of flowers, make a donation to an animal charity of choice – which endears her even more in my heart. In my book, anyone that loves animals is a good person with a good heart!
We will never know what really happened on that fateful evening – but it doesn’t really matter – it is a tragedy, regardless. Quick with a friendly hello, a smile and a seemingly love of life, Sharon, you will be dearly missed! All our best to your loved ones and family.
